Feeder
Sheets are lifted one at a time from the pile and fed into the press square, so every copy lands in the same place.

Ink train
A chain of rollers works the ink from the duct into a thin, even film before it reaches the plate.

Plate and blanket
The plate carries the image and passes the ink to a rubber blanket, which prints it onto the paper. That offset step gives the process its name.

Four inks
Full colour is built from cyan, magenta, yellow and black, laid down one after another until the whole picture appears.

Separations
Each full-colour job is split into one plate per ink. The dots of each colour sit at their own screen angle so the inks mix cleanly instead of clashing.
